December 20, 2020
I thank the Lord on this day for His goodness in my life. I have seen miracle after miracle this year despite the challenges that everyone around the world has faced and are still facing. The Bible in James 1:2 says, “consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything”.
I have had my fair share of challenges this year too, health challenges including in my family. I could have given up on God but I held steadfast in faith. When faced with all kinds of challenges, run to God and not away from Him and that is exactly what I did. When I was home sick two months ago, I read and listened to the Word of God like never before. I would watch Bible movies, listen to sermons, pray and read my Bible, day in and day out just to encourage myself in the Lord.
When you listen to the news and hear about people dying and in hospitals with all kinds of diseases, and you are unwell yourself, you are tempted to be afraid and if you do, you are falling into the clutches of the devil who wants to keep you fearful all the time, but I was determined to swim and stay afloat by listening and reading the Word. The Bible says that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).
The Bible also says in 1 Peter 5:8, “your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour”, therefore, watch out what you keep your mind busy with the whole day. Our thinking is always on and never off, the only time we are not thinking is when we are fast asleep but even then, we dream, so the imagination and the mind are still active somehow.
Thus, it is important that we watch our thoughts because when we tend to think negative, the adversary throws even more negative thoughts for us to think about. In that way, he keeps us busy looking at the wrong things, instead of the things of God. Our emotions go along with the wrong thoughts.
Galatians 5:16-17 says, “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” Further, verse 19-20 says, “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outburst of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like”.
There are eleven days before the end of 2020 and things can still change for you. You need not be stuck in negative thinking as a result of your circumstances. Know that you are not alone. I visited a physician early in the month and the television at the waiting area was on and the volume loud, and so I watched.
The presenter was interviewing business people to find out how they have been affected by the pandemic and many had to shut down. One of them said that she couldn’t sit down and cry because things were tough as she understood that the pandemic has affected everyone. She got to know about a business opportunity of procuring facemasks for large corporates and government and she submitted tender documents and got it and now she added that into her business ventures and is successful.
Our attitude also helps us to see opportunities where people have given up. Opportunities simply shows up. 2 Corinthians 9:8 says, “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work”.
Brethren, God is our only hope and this should not be said religiously without faith as if we are reciting a poem at school. We need revelation knowledge that whatever happens or doesn’t happen, God is with us and it is never too late for you. He comes in the nick of time to your rescue. He’s timing is different from ours. He says in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
